Former Site of Zhejiang Industrial Bank

The former site of Zhejiang Industrial Bank is a National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit.

The former site of Zhejiang Industrial Bank is located at No. 261 Zhongshan Middle Road, Shangcheng District. In the 31st year of the Guangxu reign (1905), during the Qing Dynasty, Tang Shouqian, the head of the Shanghai-Hangzhou Railway construction project, and others initiated the establishment of the Zhejiang Railway Company to independently build the Shanghai-Hangzhou-Ningbo Railway. In October of the following year, the company set up an affiliated railway bank.

In 1907, approval was granted to establish the Zhejiang Industrial Bank. The former site faces east and was built in 1923, covering an area of 3.385 mu with a floor space of 3,487.42 square meters. The main structure is made of reinforced concrete, featuring a five-bay width, three stories, and a Western classical-style architectural design, comprising 78 rooms of varying sizes. The basement houses the vault. The building fronts both the eastern and northern streets, with an entrance staircase flanked by curved stone drums supporting an Ionic double-columned portico. The facade, staircase, and columns are constructed from Suzhou Jinshan granite. The central part of the building is crowned with a prominent round dome. It now serves as the business office of the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China, Hangzhou Branch. The former site of Zhejiang Industrial Bank has been designated as a National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit.

In May 2013, the State Council (State Council Document [2013] No. 13) announced the former site of Zhejiang Industrial Bank as a National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit.
