Stone Dragon Cave Statues

The Stone Dragon Cave Statues are a Hangzhou Municipal Cultural Relics Protection Unit.

The Stone Dragon Cave Statues are located at the top of the southern side of South Guanyin Cave on the right side of Ciyun Ridge in Nansxing Subdistrict, Shangcheng District, Hangzhou City, Zhejiang Province. They were designated as a Hangzhou Municipal Cultural Relics Protection Unit in 1992.

The Stone Dragon Cave Statues, also known as the Thousand Buddha Cave Statues, are located on the right side of Ciyun Ridge and the southern slope of Jiangtai Mountain in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province. Carved during the Song Dynasty, the cave entrance features a carving of the “One Buddha and Two Disciples,” namely Sakyamuni in the center, flanked by his two disciples Ananda and Kasyapa. Below them are carvings of the “Three Ages of Buddha”—the Buddhas of the Past, Present, and Future—as well as nine arhat statues. On the left wall of the cave, a group of Buddha statues of varying sizes are carved along the natural rock formation, with the central figure being a standing “Three Ages of Buddha” statue, 60–70 cm in height. Surrounding it are approximately 500 smaller Buddha statues arranged in 31 rows. On one side of the carvings is the “Xinyin Ming” (Inscription on the Seal of Mind), engraved during the Northern Song Dynasty. The script is vigorous and the characters are still legible.

Protected Area: Approximately 10 meters beyond the cultural relics themselves, extending east to the 65-meter contour line, covering a total area of 1,014 square meters.

Nansxing Subdistrict: Nansxing Subdistrict is located within Shangcheng District, Hangzhou City, Zhejiang Province.
