Poems Carved on the Sentimental Flower Rock

The poems carved on the Sentimental Flower Rock are a Hangzhou Municipal Cultural Relics Protection Unit.

The poems carved on the Sentimental Flower Rock date back to the Ming Dynasty and are located behind Baocheng Temple on Ziyang Mountain.

They are situated at the eastern foot of Wu Hill, behind Baocheng Temple in Ziyang Subdistrict, Shangcheng District, Hangzhou City, Zhejiang Province, China, and were designated as a Zhejiang Provincial Cultural Relics Protection Unit in 1986.

In the Northern Song Dynasty, Su Shi composed a regulated poem inspired by the flowers he admired at Baocheng Temple, which was then inscribed on the cliff face. During the Ming Dynasty, Zhu Shuxun inscribed the words “Sentimental Flower Rock” above it. In the Chenghua era, Wu Lesheng added the four characters “Sui Han, Song Zhu” (meaning “through cold seasons, pine and bamboo”) on both sides.

Protected area: Approximately 3 meters beyond the physical boundary of the relics, covering a total area of 142 square meters.

Construction control zone: Given that the relics as a whole are situated within the construction control zone of the Lin’an City Ruins, a National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit, and that the construction control zone of the Lin’an City Ruins already covers the surrounding area of the relics, no additional construction control zone is designated for this site.
