Former Site of Zhejiang Agricultural University

The former site of Zhejiang Agricultural University is a cultural heritage site protected at the provincial level in Zhejiang Province.

The former site of Zhejiang Agricultural University is located in Kaixuan Subdistrict, Jianggan District, Hangzhou, dating back to the Republican era and the People's Republic of China.

The site is situated at No. 258 Kaixuan Road, bordered by Fengqi East Road to the south, Qiutao North Road to the east, Genshan West Road to the north, and Kaixuan Road to the west, approximately 300 meters west of Tiesha River.

According to the "Annals of Zhejiang Agricultural University," the university originated from the Official Zhejiang Agricultural Teachers Training Institute, established in the second year of the Xuantong reign of the Qing Dynasty (1910), with its original campus located in the Mapo Lane area of Hangzhou. Later, as the education system evolved, it became the College of Agriculture of Zhejiang University in the 18th year of the Republican era (1929), and was relocated to its current site in the 23rd year of the Republican era (1934). During the Anti-Japanese War, the university was forced to move westward after the fall of Hangzhou; it was rebuilt at its current location after the war.

Currently, there are 34 buildings on the site that were constructed between the 1940s and 1970s, serving various functions such as teaching, research, and residential purposes. After decades of development, these buildings blend harmoniously with the surrounding scenic environment, forming a natural and cultural landscape with garden-like characteristics and profound historical and cultural significance, holding great historical value.

Some villa complexes, such as Unity Hall and Peace Hall, were designated as part of the second batch of historical buildings in Hangzhou by the Hangzhou Municipal People's Government in 2005; West Dormitory and Shennong Hall were listed as part of the sixth batch in 2011. These have now been collectively recognized as part of the fifth batch of municipal-level cultural heritage protection units in Hangzhou.

On January 13, 2017, the Zhejiang Provincial People's Government announced it as part of the seventh batch of cultural heritage protection units in Zhejiang Province.
