The Zhu Feng Martyr Memorial Building is a cultural relic protection unit of Zhenhai District and a classic red tourism attraction.

The Zhu Feng Martyr Memorial Building

The Zhu Feng Martyr Memorial Building, originally known as the Zhu Family Garden, or “Qiyuan” (Rest Garden), was constructed during the Republican era and served as the former residence of the renowned martyr Zhu Feng.

Zhu Feng, female (1905–1950), was a member of the Communist Party. She had worked at the East China Bureau in Shanghai and was executed by the Taiwanese authorities on June 10, 1950, in the world-shocking “Taiwan Spy Case.” In June 1983, the Ministry of Civil Affairs of the People’s Republic of China posthumously recognized Zhu Feng (also known as Zhu Chenzhi) as a revolutionary martyr.

Zhu Feng joined the Communist movement while attending Ningbo Girls' Normal School. When the War of Resistance against Japan broke out, she organized young people to take part in the salvation movement. In 1938, when Japanese invaders attacked Zhenhai, she and her husband went to the New Fourth Army in southern Anhui. She sold her property to support the revolutionary cause. In 1944, she was assigned underground work in occupied Shanghai but was arrested and imprisoned. She endured harsh interrogation by Japanese military police and, after being released, joined the Communist Party of China. She was then sent to Hong Kong to carry out intelligence work. In May 1949, when Shanghai was liberated, Zhu Feng, who was in Hong Kong preparing to reunite with her husband and daughter, suddenly received orders to go to Taiwan to establish contact with the underground Communist Party there. Just as she completed the mission and was about to leave Taiwan, she was unfortunately arrested due to betrayal. She remained steadfast and was executed heroically in Taipei on June 10, 1950.

In 1994, during the expansion of the athletic field at Zhenhai High School, Zhu Feng’s former residence was included in the school's construction plan. A corner of the site was preserved, rebuilt, and converted into the Zhu Feng Martyr Memorial Building. On November 25, 1996, it was approved and announced as a district-level cultural relic protection unit by the People’s Government of Zhenhai District.

The Zhu Feng Martyr Memorial Building covers a construction area of 144 square meters. It is a two-story brick-and-wood structure consisting of six rooms of various sizes. The building features a winding floor plan and embodies the architectural style of a classical private garden. Inside, exhibits include the portrait of martyr Zhu Feng and pictorial displays of her life and deeds.
