China Air Defense Expo Park is located on Zhaobaoshan Mountain in Zhenhai District, Ningbo City. With a total investment of 180 million yuan, the park covers an area of 40,000 square meters, with an exhibition building area of approximately 18,500 square meters. It mainly consists of three parts: the introductory hall, the civil air defense tunnel exhibition hall, and the military experience zone.

This project fills a historical gap in China where there was no systematic venue for educating the public on civil air defense knowledge and skills. It establishes a strong platform for the government, military, and society to jointly promote civil air defense education. It also innovates methods and means to popularize and deepen national defense education under new circumstances, playing a significant role in raising public awareness of national defense and fostering a strong atmosphere of collective effort in national defense construction.

The 360° panoramic cinema in the introductory hall of the Air Defense Expo Park allows visitors to watch an 8 to 10-minute panoramic film, through which they can learn about the century-long history of air defense, especially the development of aviation aircraft, missile weapons, and precision guidance technology.

The exhibition hall, renovated from a civil air defense tunnel, is located within the mountain of Zhaobaoshan Scenic Area. It stretches over 1,700 meters in total length and covers an area of more than 8,200 square meters. Inside, there are 40 rooms of various sizes, including a large hall near the entrance that is 45 meters long, 12 meters wide, and 6.5 meters high. This well-preserved civil air defense tunnel forms a light-and-shadow time tunnel. Visitors can not only admire sculptures and murals but also experience the wartime air raid environment created by multimedia technologies such as sound, light, and electricity. This includes scenarios such as London air defense during WWII, Pearl Harbor air defense, air defense during the Korean War, air defense of the former Yugoslavia during the Kosovo War, and air defense in northern Vietnam.

The outdoor weapons display area showcases various large-scale aerial and air defense weapons, including bombers, fighter jets, various types of aerial bombs, anti-aircraft guns, and high-caliber rifles. The application process for retired military equipment displayed in the area received strong support from the National Civil Air Defense Office and the Army, Navy, and Air Force. Twice, applications were submitted to the Equipment Department in the name of the Zhejiang Provincial People’s Government. Currently, 1:1 highly realistic models such as the Type 62 light tank, twin 37mm anti-aircraft gun, Apache helicopter, and J-10 fighter jet have been installed in the park.

The Military Experience Zone is divided into four sections: aviation, naval, ground air defense, and land combat. In the aviation section, visitors can experience flying a plane to view their hometown, take off and land, conduct air-to-ground attacks, air-to-sea attacks, and air-to-air attacks. In the naval section, visitors can experience the thrill of piloting a ship and riding the waves. The ground air defense section offers experiences such as shooting with anti-aircraft machine guns and shoulder-fired surface-to-air missiles. The land combat section features experiences such as driving armored vehicles and “Shen” shooting simulations.
