The Tang Dynasty Celadon Kiln Site in Xiaodong'ao

The Tang Dynasty Celadon Kiln Site in Xiaodong'ao is a cultural relic protection unit of Zhenhai District.

The Tang Dynasty Celadon Kiln Site in Xiaodong'ao is located in Xiaodong'ao Village, about five li from Jiulonghu Town, on a hillside 12 meters above the ground to the north of the drying ground. The kiln site is distributed across areas such as Tunkou, Hejiayuan, and Chenzhong Mountain, originally situated along the upper reaches of both sides of a river. The waterways led south to the port city of Ningbo and eastward out of Zhoushan through a canal.

In 1979, a large number of celadon fragments and defective pottery were unearthed when members of the commune dug soil on the hillside to build houses. After examination by the cultural relics department of Ningbo City, it was confirmed that this was a kiln site where the laboring people of the Tang Dynasty fired celadon and pottery.

It was designated as a county-level cultural relics protection unit in July 1981.
