Zhenhai Port Coastal Defense History Memorial Hall

The Zhenhai Port Coastal Defense History Memorial Hall was opened to the public on October 8, 1997. It is located at the southern foot of Zhaobao Mountain in Zhenhai Port, an important coastal defense fortress known as the "Mighty Town by the Sea and Throat of the Whole Province of Zhejiang." Covering an area of 20,000 square meters with a building area of 3,200 square meters, and a total investment of 21 million yuan, it is a thematic memorial hall dedicated to the coastal defense sites of Zhenhai Port. The architectural design of the memorial hall was overseen by Qi Kang, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and director of the Architecture Research Institute at Southeast University, while the overall interior exhibition design was led by Fei Qinsheng, deputy director of the Exhibition Art Committee of the Chinese Museums Association and researcher at the Shanghai Museum. The permanent exhibition is divided into two floors and consists of six sections: the Preface Hall, the Anti-Wokou (Japanese Pirates) Hall, the Anti-British Hall, the Anti-French Hall, the Anti-Japanese Hall, and the Modern Coastal Defense Hall. It comprehensively showcases the authentic historical records of the Zhenhai military and civilians resisting Wokou pirates, as well as the British, French, and Japanese invasions since the mid-Ming Dynasty. Among these, the focus is on the 1885 Zhenhai Anti-French Defense Battle, reflecting the fearless, persevering, and self-reliant national spirit of the Chinese people.

Since its establishment, the Zhenhai Port Coastal Defense History Memorial Hall has been named one of the National Top 100 Patriotic Education Demonstration Bases by the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee, awarded the title of National Youth Education Base by organizations including the Communist Youth League Central Committee, and designated as a Zhejiang Provincial Patriotic Education Base, Zhejiang Provincial National Defense Education Base, Zhejiang Provincial Women's Patriotic Education Base, Zhejiang Provincial Civilized Museum, and Advanced Unit of National Defense Education. Now, the Zhenhai Port Coastal Defense History Memorial Hall has become an important base for patriotic education in China.
