The First School of Jiangnan

The First School of Jiangnan mainly consists of two parts: a museum and a guildhall. The museum features one comprehensive exhibition and six thematic exhibitions. The comprehensive exhibition offers an outline of the development history of the Ningbo Business Group—from its origins in the Tang and Song dynasties, continuity through the Ming and Qing dynasties, transformation in the Republic of China period, to integration in the contemporary era. The thematic exhibitions showcase the group’s accomplishments in shipping, finance, commerce, industry, education, and other fields in a categorized manner. The guildhall serves as the main venue for activities and spiritual home for Ningbo people at home and abroad, aiming to enhance camaraderie, affection, and attachment among both established and new members of the Ningbo Business Group.

Characterized by waterside pavilions, gardens, and commercial culture landscapes, the architecture of The First School of Jiangnan embodies a “convergence of three rivers” style. It houses two major themed sculptures—“Deng Xiaoping and Y.K. Pao” and the “Hundred-Meter Relief”—as well as seven group sculptures representing key industries.

It fully showcases the “Yong Business Spirit” forged by the Ningbo Business Group over the past century: the patriotic sentiment of “no matter how high the tree grows, its roots lie in the earth,” the pioneering spirit of “daring to be the first in the world,” the open-minded philosophy of “embracing all rivers,” the integrity of “utmost sincerity without deceit,” and the mutual support style of “valuing righteousness in business.”
