Former Residence of Sun Dianying

The former residence of Sun Dianying is located at No. 20 Munan Road, Heping District. Built in the 1930s, the building was publicly claimed to be his Tianjin liaison office, but according to historical records, it actually served as his base for marketing, arms dealing, and ticket scalping in Tianjin. The residence is designed in the British classical architectural style. The structure features an irregular and distinctive layout that stands out among private villas for its refined craftsmanship. It has four floors in total — the second-floor terrace is supported by eight white columns extending up to the third floor, giving it an elegant and classic appearance. On the third floor, there are four doors leading to the terrace from the southern-facing rooms in the middle section. The fourth floor has terraces at both the eastern and western ends. The residence is currently used by the Changlu Salt Administration Bureau and is listed as a cultural relic protection unit of Tianjin.

Sun Dianying (1889–1947), originally from Dingxinzhuang, Mamu Town, Yongcheng (formerly part of Yongzhou Prefecture, now Yongcheng City, Henan Province). He came from a military background and joined the forces in 1928, serving as the commander of the 12th Army of the 6th Corps. He gained notoriety for looting the Eastern Qing Tombs in Malanyu, Hebei. In 1930, he participated in the Central Plains War against Chiang Kai-shek but was defeated and later incorporated into Zhang Xueliang's forces. After the outbreak of the War of Resistance Against Japan, he held various positions including Commander-in-Chief of the Hebei-Chahar Guerrilla Forces and Commander of the New 5th Army. In 1943, he was captured during fighting against the Japanese in Henan, then defected to the Wang Jingwei puppet regime and was appointed “Commander-in-Chief of the Henan Northern Anti-Communist Army.” After the end of the Anti-Japanese War, he rejoined Chiang Kai-shek and continued to engage in the civil war.
