Former Residence of Wang Zhanyuan

The former residence of Wang Zhanyuan is a cultural tourism attraction.

The former residence of Wang Zhanyuan is located at No. 64–70 Dali Road, Heping District, Tianjin. No. 64–70 Dali Road consists of three identically designed British-style mixed-structure buildings, which were built by Wang Zhanyuan for his three sons. Each building has an asymmetrical floor plan, with the front part of the ground floor featuring a semi-circular glass flower hall, in front of which is a balcony, while the roof of the second floor extends out with a large concrete canopy, and the rear part of the balcony is a partially three-story living area. This residence is now the First Workers' Sanatorium and has been listed as an immovable cultural relic of Tianjin.

Wang Zhanyuan (1861–1933), from Guantao, Shandong Province, once served as the Governor and Military Governor of Hubei Province, as well as the Inspector-General of the Two Lakes Region.

Wang Zhanyuan (1861–1934), originally named Deshan and styled Zichun, was from Nanguantao Town, Guantao County (now part of Handan City, Hebei Province), Shandong Province. A general in the Beiyang period, he served as the Military Governor of Hubei and was notorious for his corruption. At the age of 18, driven by poverty, Wang joined the Huai Army under Liu Mingchuan as a soldier, where he was in charge of holding the regimental flag. In August 1885, he was recommended to attend the first class of the Beiyang Military Academy. He graduated in February 1890 and joined Song Qing’s Yi Army. In July 1894, when the First Sino-Japanese War broke out, Wang Zhanyuan, along with Zhang Huaizhi and Cao Kun, participated in the Battle of the Yalu River.
