Former Residence of Li Zhuchen

The former residence of Li Zhuchen is a cultural tourism attraction.

The former residence of Li Zhuchen is located at No. 202 (now No. 102) Machang Road, Heping District, Tianjin. It is a four-story wooden building situated among a row of apartment blocks. Upon entering, there is a small courtyard. The building has eight rooms in total, spread across the upper and lower floors, all facing north and south. Ascending the stairs to the second floor, the front and back rooms serve as guest rooms, while the third and fourth floors house the main living quarters. In 1952, Chairman Mao Zedong stayed here during his inspection visit to Tianjin. Today, this row of apartment buildings, having weathered the years, shows signs of aging.

Li Zhuchen (1881–1968) once served as Vice Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), Acting Chairman of the Central Committee of the China Democratic National Construction Association (CDNCA), Vice Chairman of the All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce (ACFIC), and Minister of Light Industry. He was also the founder of the Tianjin Federation of Industry and Commerce and the Tianjin CDNCA.

A native of Yongshun County, Hunan Province, Li Zhuchen was born on September 16, 1882, in Maoba Village, Yongshun. He began studying at a private school at the age of seven, where he was diligent and eager to learn, earning the admiration of his teacher, who believed him to be a talent capable of contributing to nation-building. In 1898, he took the imperial child examination. In 1901, he participated in the Yongshun Prefecture examination and ranked first.
