Liangzhu Cultural Park
Liangzhu Cultural Park is a national AAAA-level tourist attraction.
Located in Gaoqiao Town, Yinzhou District, on the western outskirts of Ningbo, and covering a total area of over 300 acres, Liangzhu Cultural Park is a scenic tourist area centered around the Liang Shanbo Temple and themed on the legend of Liang Shanbo and Zhu Yingtai. The architectural complex and landscaping, including the Liang Shanbo Temple, Wansong Academy, Butterfly Love Garden, the ancient tomb of Liang Shanbo, Bailin Road, Couple’s Bridge, Phoenix Mountain, and a large 30-acre butterfly transformation music plaza, create a richly romantic ambiance that captivates visitors.
The site is located at the ancient ruins of the Liang-Zhu tomb and temple from the Jin Dynasty, bordered by the picturesque Yao River to the west and connecting to downtown Ningbo to the east. Historical records such as the Ningbo Prefecture Annals document that Liang Shanbo and Zhu Yingtai were once classmates. After completing their studies, Liang became the magistrate of Yin County. He died of illness due to overwork in water management and was buried in Jiulongxu, Gaoqiao, as per his last wish. The ancient tomb ruins and unearthed relics have since been excavated.
Liangzhu Cultural Park promotes the love story of Liang and Zhu as its cultural essence, with the main thematic routes including “Oath of Brotherhood on Grass Bridge,” “Three Years as Classmates,” “Farewell at Eighteen,” “Reunion in the Tower,” “Tomb Sacrifice and Union,” and “Butterflies Forever Together.” Covering a total area of over 300 acres, it forms a grand love-themed park. The Liang Shanbo Temple, with its upturned eaves and ornate corners, consists of a gate tower, main hall, and rear hall. The tall and exquisite ancient stage frequently hosts captivating opera performances, immersing you in tender and poignant scenes. Along the winding corridors, the Liangzhu Culture Stele Forest stands, featuring precious calligraphy works by renowned national calligraphers and folk art experts that are truly breathtaking. In the Liangzhu Study Courtyard, pavilions, towers, waterside gazebos, and classic Jiangnan-style garden architecture offer a full taste of traditional southern Chinese garden charm. The Study Courtyard also houses the Liangzhu Culture Exhibition Hall, displaying a wealth of valuable materials and artifacts that reflect the profound cultural heritage of the legend. The Study Hall, Ancestral Teachers’ Hall, and Calligraphy Studio are gathering places for visitors and literati. Scenic spots such as Zhu’s Manor, the Path of Eighteen Farewells, and the Liangzhu Couple’s Bedroom vividly express the deep affection between the two lovers, showcasing the simple yet exquisite features of Jiangnan gardens, making every step a delight and leaving visitors lingering in awe. By the Yao River, willows sway and green lawns stretch like carpets; in the Butterfly Love Garden, fragrant blossoms and fluttering butterflies—pairs of colorful wings dancing together—symbolize the spirits of this devoted couple. On the large lawn covering over 30 acres stands a towering sculpture of Liang and Zhu transforming into butterflies, appearing almost ethereal. This is a large-scale scenic destination on the outskirts of Ningbo that combines tourism, entertainment, culture, and academia.
Liangzhu Cultural Park emphasizes visitor participation and entertainment, harmoniously blending ancient traditional customs with modern elements. It offers venues for collective weddings and provides commemorative spaces for golden and silver anniversaries in Zhu’s Manor, creating a healthy and civilized tourism culture. The park celebrates pure love and pursues themes of truth, goodness, and beauty, focusing on cultural enrichment and elevation to make this distinctive theme park truly one of a kind.
