Dongqian Lake Futian Mountain
The Futian Mountain Scenic Area is the closest natural oxygen bar to the city. It features lush trees, verdant tea plantations, rolling pine waves, and the chirping of birds amid fragrant flowers. Isolated from urban areas with zero pollution, the air here is fresh. The mountain is perennially shrouded in mist, boasting beautiful scenery and a unique alpine climate. The vast expanse of tea fields created by hardworking and ingenious tea farmers is rare even nationwide, with over 3,600 acres of tea trees planted along the slopes. The trees are rounded and arranged in ridges, undulating with the mountain terrain, forming the spectacular "Tea Ridge Green Waves" landscape.
The scenic area also boasts numerous streams, ponds, and waterfalls that dot the mountainous wonders. Surrounded by this environment, you’ll feel a gentle breeze on your face, see layers of vibrant greens, breathe in the refreshing aroma of tea, and listen to the babbling brooks and the whispers of mountain birds. Such a paradise can truly be called an otherworldly tea garden.
The Dongqian Lake Futian Mountain Scenic Area is located in the southeastern mountainous region of Dongqian Lake, bordering Xiangshan Port to the southeast and Dongqian Lake to the northwest. It is a tourist destination that combines mountain and tea plantation experiences. From the summit of Futian Mountain, you can view the sea to the east and the lake to the west, truly a place where “a single mountain offers views of both lake and sea, embraced by endless greenery.”
The scenic area is divided into eight sightseeing spots: Wanghu Pavilion, Phoenix Lake, Wutai Sunrise Viewing, Longtan Futian, Phoenix Drunken Valley, Ancient Osmanthus Fragrance, Daci Relics Search, and Tiandayan Rock. Wanghu Pavilion: Climb to the pavilion for a panoramic view of the beautiful scenery of Dongqian Lake.
The surrounding Shanghai Federation of Trade Unions Sanatorium, Huamao Dongqian Lake Hotel, Erling Mountain, and Taogu Mountain are all clearly visible, and on clear days you can even see the cityscape of Ningbo.
Phoenix Lake: This area consists of Phoenix Lake itself, two adjacent hills known as the Phoenix Hills, and a valley. To the northeast of Phoenix Lake lie the Phoenix Hills. When the tea plantations were originally established, they were planted along the contours of the land, inadvertently forming shapes resembling the Chinese characters for “phoenix” and “phoenix hen.” These blend seamlessly with the lake to create the “Phoenixes Playing in Water” landscape.
Wutai Sunrise Viewing: Located on Wutai Mountain, the second highest peak in Futian Mountain at 512 meters, it is an excellent spot to watch the sunrise over the East China Sea. The mountain gets its name because its summit features five small, bun-shaped terraces stacked from top to bottom. The mountain is covered with tea fields, offering fresh and pristine air.
In spring, the rising sun occasionally peeks through the drifting clouds, creating ever-changing scenes. In summer, after thunderstorms, rainbows hang in the distance while fog rolls in from the nearby mountains. In autumn, the hills are ablaze with red foliage. In winter, the landscape is blanketed in snow, presenting a uniquely enchanting silver world. Futian Dragon Pool: Futian Spring continues to gush crystal-clear, sweet water even during three-year droughts. During severe summer droughts when Dongqian Lake’s water level drops drastically, this spring remains full and rippling. When winter comes, warm steam rises from the spring, which never freezes. Nearby lies Dragon Pool, with crystal-clear, rippling waters where fish can occasionally be spotted swimming. It’s the perfect spot for visitors to enjoy tea, relax, and rejuvenate.
The scenic area offers convenient transportation with high-end sightseeing vehicles, and onboard guides provide free commentary along the way. As the sun sets and dusk falls, the area takes on a uniquely enchanting beauty.
