The former residence of Wellington Koo is a cultural tourism attraction.

The former residence of Wellington Koo is located at No. 267 Hebei Road, Heping District. The house was built in 1921, covering a land area of 1,320 square meters and a building area of 1,547 square meters. Wellington Koo briefly stayed here in 1924. The main building has three floors and is of brick-and-wood structure. The ground floor includes six rooms and two halls. Upon entering from the foyer into the main hall, you’ll find a large fireplace, with fixed seating by the windows, as well as adjacent rooms such as a study, dining room, and floral hall, all leading out to a large terrace. The second and third floors contain bedrooms and bathrooms. The building’s façade features red brick walls. The windows are integrated with arched openings, and a pair of Baroque-style twisted columns stand dignifiedly at the entrance. The building is currently used by the Tianjin Committee of the Revolutionary Committee of the Chinese Kuomintang and has been designated as a cultural relic protection unit of Tianjin.

Wellington Koo (January 29, 1888 – November 14, 1985), courtesy name Shaochuan, was a Han Chinese from Jiading County, Jiangsu Province (now Jiading District, Shanghai), and one of the most outstanding diplomats in modern Chinese history.

Wellington Koo, courtesy name Shaochuan, was born on January 29, 1888 (the 17th day of the 12th month of the 13th year of the Guangxu reign in the Qing Dynasty) in Jiading, Jiangsu (now part of Shanghai’s Jiading District). He first attended a traditional private school, then in 1899 enrolled in the Anglo-Chinese College in Shanghai, and in 1901 entered St. John’s College.
