Ningbo Ocean World

Ningbo Ocean World is a national AAAA-level tourist attraction.

Situated at No. 936, Sangtian Road, Jiangdong District, Ningbo (eastern end of Children's Park), Ningbo Ocean World combines marine life exhibitions, large-scale marine animal shows, and marine ecological science education. It is the most performance-focused large aquarium in East China. Since its opening on November 16, 2006, it has received approximately 1.6 million visitors and has been honored as a National AAAA-level Tourist Attraction, Science Education Base of the Chinese Society of Fisheries, Science Education Base of Zhejiang Province, Eco-environmental Education Demonstration Base of Zhejiang Province, and Marine Science Education Base of Zhejiang Province. It is also a member of the National Marine Rare and Endangered Wildlife Rescue Network and the Ningbo Aquatic Wildlife Rescue Center.

Ningbo Ocean World currently features two venues: the Aquarium and the Ocean Theatre.

Aquarium — The aquarium building covers an area of 10,000 square meters and adopts the latest fashionable design concepts for marine leisure and entertainment. It showcases marine fish exhibition areas set against the mysterious Angkor Wat landscape, ancient Egyptian culture, and the weathered ruins of the Old Summer Palace, allowing visitors to appreciate the perfect harmony of marine life and the beauty of natural ecology. It boasts the nation’s only combination of three types of (stacked, 180°, and 270°) underwater sightseeing tunnels, offering a dreamlike experience of being deep in the ocean. In the mermaid performance area, romantic and graceful mermaid shows and high-level artistic aquatic ballet performances are staged daily. The seal performance area features hilarious skits performed by the seal family. In the amphibian exhibition area, you can explore the mysteries of ancient and magical reptiles. The venue also includes a children’s play area and a marine-themed boutique mall.

Ocean Theatre — The Ningbo Ocean Theatre covers a construction area of 5,800 square meters and houses exhibition areas for Japanese bottlenose dolphins, Russian beluga whales, South American sea lions, Arctic wolves, Arctic foxes, and rockhopper penguins, as well as a marine science education corridor, a walrus feeding interaction area.

In the newest, most exciting Ocean Theatre, the performance area can accommodate over 2,500 spectators at once. On a dazzling stage under the spotlight and in front of a huge audience, watch a grand talent show featuring marine animal stars. Intelligent dolphins, nimble sea lions, adorable beluga whale couples, and lovable walruses, together with top-tier trainers, take on high-difficulty challenges, showcase their signature skills, and compete in talent showdowns. Dolphin stars leap through the air, perform water hurdles, juggle balls, and do hula hoops, demonstrating extraordinary abilities and innocent charm, bringing you thrilling and stunning visual impacts. Sea lion stars show off their signature acts — Chinese kung fu, acrobatics, singing, dancing, arithmetic, and more, all lively, funny, and spectacular. The sweet songs of the beluga whale couple, known as the “canaries of the sea,” let you enjoy melodies from marine musicians, leaving you enchanted and reminiscing. The beluga stars, in perfect harmony with their trainers, present synchronized swimming and “flower whale knights,” showcasing the beautiful scene of harmony between humans and animals. There are also interactive family moments where you can get up close with marine animals. The entire show is lively, full of surprises, thrills, and endless fun.

Marine Science Museum — A great place for citizens and young people to explore marine knowledge, experience the infinite wonders of marine life, and admire the museum’s treasures — the magical fish skin clothing and the unique “dinosaur shark” specimen in Ningbo Ocean World. Listen to marine science lectures in the Ocean Science Lecture Hall, observe marine life up close, enrich your marine knowledge, understand the ocean, and learn to love it. The museum also features a marine-themed Western restaurant where visitors can enjoy meals in a relaxing environment.
