Ningbo Science and Technology Museum

The Ningbo Science and Technology Museum is located in the central corridor of Ningbo’s Eastern New Town, in the northwest block of Ningbo Cultural Plaza. With a total construction area of approximately 55,000 square meters—about the size of six soccer fields—and an investment of around 1 billion RMB, it is the first large-scale science museum in Ningbo and also the first large-scale comprehensive interactive science experience venue themed around “exploration.”

The exhibition content of the Ningbo Science and Technology Museum centers on the theme of “Human • Exploration,” exploring through two main threads: the exploration of the natural environment and the exploration of humanity itself. While emphasizing the popularization of scientific knowledge, it aims to stimulate people’s desire to explore science, disseminate scientific thinking, methods, and spirit. It is the first large-scale comprehensive interactive science experience venue in China themed around “exploration.”

The Ocean Exhibition Hall is located on the west side of the 3rd floor, with an elevation of about 11 meters and an area of 2,185 square meters. It is one of the six permanent exhibition halls and was designed by the UK-based MET Studio. The hall showcases marine-related science and technology as well as natural phenomena, featuring a series of themes that highlight the unique charm of the ocean. It displays the scientific technologies and great achievements of humanity in understanding, exploring, and utilizing the ocean, aiming to inspire enthusiasm and curiosity about the sea.

The Harmonious Home Exhibition Hall is located on the east side of the 3rd floor, covering an area of 2,031 square meters and designed by the UK-based MET Studio. By presenting the current state of the human living environment and the impact of daily life on the environment, it explores how changes in habits and advances in technology can create a comfortable life while promoting energy conservation and environmental protection, working together toward a harmonious and beautiful future.

The Universe Exhibition Hall is located on the south side of the 3rd floor, with an area of 2,500 square meters, and was designed by the UK-based MET Studio. Through immersive environmental design and meaningful interactive exhibits, the hall allows visitors to experience the vastness and mystery of the universe while stimulating interest in exploring it.

The Human Body and Brain Exhibition Hall is located on the west side of the 4th floor, with an area of 2,353 square meters, and was designed by the U.S.-based WestOffice Design Company. The hall creatively presents knowledge about human health in the form of laboratory spaces, advocating a healthy and positive lifestyle.

The Human Skills Exhibition Hall is located on the east side of the 4th floor, with an elevation of 6 meters and an area of 2,181 square meters. It was designed by Japan’s Daisansha Co., Ltd. Based on Howard Gardner’s theory of multiple intelligences, the hall uses the understanding, rediscovery, and development of human abilities as its main design theme. It is the world’s first permanent thematic exhibition hall dedicated to exploring human skills.

The Fun of Science Exhibition Hall is located on the south side of the 4th floor, with an area of 2,428 square meters, and was created by the world-renowned Taiwanese design firm Yujiang. The hall focuses on basic scientific knowledge and theories, showcasing the principles and applications of disciplines such as physics, chemistry, mathematics, bionics, and forensic science.

The Dome Theater offers a brand-new perspective on experiencing science-themed films. In addition, dynamically programmed white LED lights create various lighting effects on the grid-like dome, allowing visitors to enjoy the beauty of light. The Dome Theater can accommodate up to 140 people at a time.
