The Taogong Island Scenic Area is the place where Tao Zhugong Fan Li, the ancestor of Chinese commerce and the God of Wealth, and Xi Shi, the Chinese Goddess of Love and the Eastern Venus, lived 2,500 years ago. Fan Li and Xi Shi are the earliest, most renowned, culturally rich, socially influential, and most beloved celebrity figures in Ningbo’s history. They embody many of the finest virtues of the Chinese nation, representing success, love, wealth, and wisdom, as well as symbols of happiness, beauty, health, and peace. Dongqian Lake and Taogong Island derive their names from Tao Gong. Taogong Island is the most auspicious and romantic place in Ningbo.
