Shanghuashan
Shanghuashan is located behind Guangxi Village and Zhoujia Village in Yinxijie Town, Yinzhou District. The main attractions here are ancient stone quarries and historic trails. The quarries were first excavated during the Yuan Dynasty, yielding a type of stone known as Xiaoxi Stone, which was later used to reinforce the Tashan Weir. The quarry site is divided into three sections, each with multiple large chambers supported by stone pillars. Though not as massive as the Longyou Grottoes or Snake Islet, it is the closest such site to downtown Ningbo and remains quite impressive. However, be cautious of falling rocks inside the quarries, and note that some chambers contain pools of water.
The Shanghuashan Ancient Trail stretches 1,200 meters between the South Quarry and Zhoujia Village. It has a stone-paved surface designed to facilitate the transport of stone materials. The scenery along the trail is particularly beautiful in spring and autumn.
Shanghuashan is currently being developed into Ningbo’s Climbing Park. An international climbing competition was held during its groundbreaking ceremony, and the site remains free to visit.
[Transportation] By car, take Hexiang Line westward, pass the north ring road of Yinxijie Town, and you will arrive at the Yinxijie Bus Station. After parking, you can head up the mountain.
