Huayun Museum
Huayun Museum is a national AAA-level tourist attraction and a municipal cultural heritage site.
The national AAA-level tourist attraction Huayun Museum is located at the intersection of Hebei Road and Hounan Road in Tianjin. As the first private museum in Tianjin, it holds a Guinness World Record for having the largest number and variety of ancient cultural relics.
Huayun Museum, the first private museum in Tianjin and a municipal cultural heritage site, is a national 3A-level tourist attraction. It is situated at No. 283 Hebei Road, Heping District, Tianjin. This comprehensive museum showcases ancient Chinese stone carvings, wood carvings, ceramics, and other cultural artworks. The exhibits include over 2,000 artifacts from more than 100 categories such as bronzes, copperware, stone carvings, and wood carvings spanning various historical periods from the Western Zhou Dynasty to the Qing Dynasty. The museum houses an imperial edict from the Daoguang era of the Qing Dynasty, various stone carvings, and ancient weapons; over 100 Buddhist statues from the Northern Wei, Northern Qi, Sui, and Tang dynasties—contemporary with the Yungang Grottoes—many of which are unique pieces; and more than 1,000 ceramic pieces from the Han to Qing dynasties, including dozens from the Five Great Kilns of the Song Dynasty. These displays demonstrate the remarkable creativity of the Chinese people and the profound artistry of ancient Chinese stone carving, wood carving, and porcelain. According to estimates by cultural heritage authorities, the artifacts housed within Yueweixian alone are currently valued at over 300 million RMB—a significant fortune. Most remarkably, Room 305 of the hotel was once the former residence of the famous Peking opera master Ma Lianliang.
Yueweixian is located near the concentration of Western-style buildings in Tianjin’s Wudadao area. It is not only a restaurant but also home to Huayun Museum. Feng Jicai inscribed it as “a museum you can eat in,” making it arguably the only one of its kind in China.
The exhibits in Huayun Museum encompass over 3,000 artifacts in more than 100 categories, representing the most typical bronzes, copperware, wood carvings, stoneware, old windows, painted wooden figures, smoking sets, screens, clocks, tables, chairs, wooden chests, portable boxes, old ironware, and clocks from the Western Zhou Dynasty to the Qing Dynasty, with some dating back as early as 2,000–3,000 years ago. A distinctive feature of Huayun Museum is the world’s first stone bar. Yueweixian’s stone bar pioneered the concept of stone culture, featuring mostly white marble stones, including over 300 stones from the Northern Qi, Northern Wei, Song, Yuan, Ming, and Qing dynasties. The quantity and quality of the white marble stone artifacts in the bar rank among the best in China and even the world. The bar combines Chinese and Western styles with an elegant yet modern atmosphere.
