Taogong Village is located by Dongqian Lake, the “back garden” of Ningbo. It is renowned as the legendary retreat of Fan Li, a celebrated statesman of the Yue Kingdom during the Spring and Autumn period, who is said to have lived in seclusion here with the beauty Xi Shi. The entire village area centers around Taogong Mountain, nestled against the hills and beside the lake. The key landscape features around the village can be summarized as “two mountains, two islands, and one long embankment”—namely, Taogong Mountain and Erling Mountain; the Lake Center Island and Taogong Island; and the north-south divided Taogong Embankment. Stepping into Taogong Village, you can experience a naturally serene and carefree atmosphere, vast wilderness, simplicity, and local charm—all of which allow visitors to escape the hustle and bustle of the city and freely explore and reside in this idyllic spot. Known as a land of the “Five Blessings” representing longevity, prosperity, health, virtue, and a peaceful death, Taogong Mountain greets you with sunrise and misty clouds, shimmering waters on clear days, and offers the spectacular view of “one mountain overlooking both lake and sea.” With fresh air, crystal-clear water, and playful waterfowl along the shore, being by the lake feels like stepping into a “lake-village integrated” paradise. The area of Taogong Village boasts abundant natural and cultural heritage and has formed a unique Eight Scenic Views of the Lake Center, namely: Misty Waves over Qian Dyke, Taogong’s Fishing Rock, Fragrant Osmanthus in the Breeze, Bright Moon over the Clear Lake, Shadows of Erling, Sunset Haze over Xiayu Islet, Buddha’s Cave Heaven, and Monks Summoning Boats.
