Former Residence of Bi Mingqi

The former residence of Bi Mingqi is a cultural tourism attraction.

The former residence of Bi Mingqi is located at No. 78 Changde Road, Heping District. Bi Mingqi lived in this Western-style bungalow for a long time during his life. He purchased the property in October 1944 under the name “Shui Shun Tang Bi” from “Yu De Tang Su,” and the following year gifted it to his son, Bi Shoufan. Covering an area of 916.67 square meters, the estate features 13 Western-style bungalows with glazed tile walls and pitched tile roofs, as well as 5 flat-roofed houses with gray bricks. It includes bedrooms, a living room, a dining room, a kitchen, bathrooms, a boiler room, and storage rooms. The total floor area is 275 square meters. The interior is exquisitely decorated, with wooden floors, triple-sash windows, and complete sanitation and heating facilities. The house is still inhabited by relatives of Bi Mingqi.

Bi Mingqi (1902–1971), courtesy name Fenggang, was from Bijiazui Village, Lijin County, and a renowned industrial and commercial entrepreneur. He studied in a private school for six years starting at the age of nine. In 1921, he enrolled in Jinan Morality Normal School. After graduation, he worked as a translator, clerk, and Chinese manager at companies such as the Lihua Foreign Firm in Shenyang, Fuma Foreign Firm, Huade Foreign Firm in Zhangjiakou, and Deutsche Farben in Shanghai. In his early years, he had connections with underground Chinese Communist Party member Wang Huating and carried out work beneficial to the revolution.
