Bai Zhangji Waterfall & Feiyun Lake Scenic Area
The Bai Zhangji Waterfall & Feiyun Lake Scenic Area is a national scenic spot and a National AAAA-level tourist attraction.
The Bai Zhangji Waterfall & Feiyun Lake Scenic Area is located in Wencheng County, on the middle and upper reaches of the Feiyun River in the southwest of Wenzhou City. It is the hometown of Liu Bowen, a renowned Chinese politician, military strategist, writer, and the father of Feng Shui, historically known as the "Sixth Blessed Land under Heaven."
The Bai Zhangji Waterfall & Feiyun Lake Scenic Area combines cultural and natural landscapes, serving as a destination for tourism, scientific exploration, and summer vacation. It consists of ten major attractions: Bai Zhang Waterfall, Liu Ji’s Hometown, Tongling Mountain National Forest Park, Zhuyang Nine Peaks, Tianding Lake, Canyon Scenic Gallery, Longqi Source, Yanmen Grand Canyon, Feiyun Lake, and Shuanglong.
Among them, the Tongling Mountain Gorge within the national forest park features unique pothole formations that are acclaimed as "a unique wonder of China."
Feiyun Lake and Tianding Lake are vast and boundless, resembling the meeting of sea and sky, with peaks like Yunmen rising directly from the water. Feiyun Lake is the largest artificial lake in southern Zhejiang, while Tianding Lake is comparable to West Lake in Hangzhou.
Zhuyang Nine Peaks stand majestically against the sky. It boasts a fairyland beauty described as “three pools and three waterfalls as clear as jade, nine cliffs and peaks hiding immortal dwellings, mist swirling gently beneath your feet, and refreshing peaks occasionally veiled in haze.”
In addition, this area is not only the hometown of the historical figure Liu Bowen but also the birthplace of the modern celebrity Zhao Chaoxiu (pen name: Lin Fang).
Bai Zhang Waterfall: Stretching about 2 kilometers from Foshan along the Sixi Stream to Tianding Lake, the waterfall cluster formed by the First, Second, and Third Falls is rugged, majestic, and spectacular. Especially notable is the Bai Zhang Waterfall, with a drop of 207 meters, which is the highest in China. An ancient saying goes: “The Dragon Pool Waterfall of Yandang can be viewed here; Bai Zhang Waterfall is both majestic and graceful. A heavenly gift of three thousand feet of flow, with cotton-like clouds spitting from mid-air.” The canyon around the waterfall cluster features peculiar rocks and steep cliffs, along with perilous peaks and hidden caves.
Tianding Lake: Accessible beyond the head of Bai Zhang Waterfall, Tianding Lake spans 5.4 square kilometers with a water storage capacity of 60 million cubic meters, situated over 630 meters above sea level, surrounded by mountains. Nantian was formerly called Jiudu (“Nine Districts”), with the saying “Nine ridges in Jiudu, each leading to Tianding,” hence the lake’s name.
Tianding Lake has over ten islands of varying sizes—some lush with greenery, some crowned with dense forests, some covered in red sand, some blooming with wildflowers, some with towering peaks, and others flat as a blanket. The interplay of lake and mountain scenery creates a delightful view.
