A Korean male biker from Seoul, South Korea, who came to Taiwan for a solo cycling trip, visited the Wushe Police Station of the Ren'ai Precinct in Nantou County at noon today to request police assistance due to exhaustion. Not familiar with the route and facing a steep altitude climb from about 500 meters to over 1,000 meters, he sought help. Coincidentally, Investigation Team Leader Wang Wen-cheng of the precinct passed by the duty desk, noticed the foreign man gesturing for help, approached to inquire, and enthusiastically asked a small truck driver heading up the mountain to assist in transporting the Korean man and his bicycle up to Wuling.
The Korean man surnamed Zhu set off today, during the Mid-Autumn Festival, from Puli. He planned to cycle along Provincial Highway 14 and then Route 14A toward Hualien. However, due to the sudden rise in altitude, he found it hard to adapt. Passing through Wushe and feeling exhausted, he entered the Ren'ai Precinct to ask if there were any available rides.
As the duty personnel did not understand Korean, the two resorted to gestures. By coincidence, Investigation Team Leader Wang Wen-cheng passed by the duty desk, noticed the exhausted Korean man trying to seek help from the officers but unable to communicate, and immediately approached to show concern. Using Google Translate on a mobile phone, he learned about the man’s needs and travel plans.
The investigation team leader and Wushe police officers warmly invited the Korean man to sit and rest on the office sofa first, providing him with detailed travel advice and guidance. After the man gradually regained his strength, to prevent further exhaustion, the officers finally asked a kind-hearted civilian who was about to drive a small truck up the mountain to help transport the Korean man and his bicycle to Wuling, allowing him to successfully complete his trip.
Thanks to the warm assistance of the Ren'ai Police Precinct and the small truck driver, the foreign tourist felt the kindness of Taiwanese police and citizens. Before getting on the vehicle, the Korean man repeatedly nodded and thanked the helpful officers. He said that the warmth of Taiwanese people left him with an unforgettable memory.
