Shaoxing Tashan Park

Shaoxing Tashan Park is a cultural tourism attraction.

Tashan is located in the southern part of Shaoxing’s ancient city. Walk through the antique pedestrian street in the Lu Xun District, and you’ll find Tashan Park near the intersection of Jiefang Road and Yan’an Road.

Tashan is also known as Feilai Mountain, Baolin Mountain, Guai Mountain, and Turtle Mountain. According to the *Spring and Autumn Annals of Wu and Yue*, after Fan Li completed the construction of the city he built, “a mountain from Dongwu on the East Sea suddenly appeared one night, hence the name Guai Mountain.” It thus earned the names Guai Mountain and Feilai Mountain. It is also called Turtle Mountain due to its turtle-like shape. During the Southern Dynasties, Master Huiji built Baolin Temple on the mountain, which is why it was also named Baolin Mountain. The mountain features the Yingtian Tower, which got its name when Baolin Temple was renamed Yingtian Temple during the Tang Dynasty. Its current name, Tashan, comes from the presence of Yingtian Tower. Tashan is one of the three small mountains within Shaoxing’s ancient city and holds significant value due to its many historical relics.

Recently, the Shaoxing municipal government has carried out renovations while preserving the original appearance. Illegal structures that marred the scenery have been demolished, the Dongwu Pavilion has been restored, and the Qingliang Temple has been rebuilt. To facilitate visitors’ exploration, relevant departments have also constructed pavilions and corridors while improving the environment, creating a leisure area where cascading waterfalls, lush greenery, and vibrant life coexist near the bustling city yet remain tranquil. From Yingtian Tower, visitors can enjoy a panoramic view of Shaoxing’s main streets, making it an especially great spot to overlook the southern part of the city and the ancient southern suburbs.
