Fan-Title Bridge is located on Jishan Street in downtown Shaoxing. It got its name from the story of Wang Xizhi inscribing calligraphy on fans for an old fan vendor. The current bridge was rebuilt on the original site in the eighth year of the Daoguang reign during the Qing Dynasty (1828). Legend has it that the Sage of Calligraphy, Wang Xizhi, once inscribed calligraphy on fans for an elderly woman selling them here, hence the bridge’s name. Today, there is a stele at the head of Fan-Title Bridge inscribed with “Fan-Title Bridge of Wang Youjun of the Jin Dynasty…”

Passersby often enjoy talking about this charming anecdote. Moreover, Fan-Title Bridge can be considered the most atmospheric spot in the entire hometown of Wang Xizhi. Standing on the bridge, you can admire the traditional houses with white walls and black tiles nestled along the water, perfectly capturing all your imagination of a Shaoxing water town.
