Shaoxing He Mijian Ancestral Hall
Shaoxing He Mijian Ancestral Hall is a cultural tourism attraction.
He Mijian Ancestral Hall, located on Laodong Road in downtown Shaoxing to the west of the "Zhou Enlai Ancestral Residence," was originally the temporary residence of He Zhizhang, a renowned poet and calligrapher of the Tang Dynasty. It now serves as a memorial site dedicated to the poet. First built during the Tang Dynasty, it underwent multiple reconstructions during the Song and Ming Dynasties, with the most recent renovation taking place in 2001.
The reconstructed He Mijian Ancestral Hall covers an area of over 1,500 square meters and consists of the Chongxian Hall, Qiuzhou Tower, and Huaihe Pavilion. It is the only Tang-style building in downtown Shaoxing. The first section, Chongxian Hall, houses a statue of He Zhizhang, behind which is a handwritten copy of his poem "Homecoming After Retirement" by Mao Zedong. On both sides are exhibits displaying the life and historical traces of He Zhizhang. The second section, Qiuzhou Tower, is restored based on the basic layout of traditional public ancestral halls in Shaoxing’s history, featuring a line-engraved stone portrait of He Zhizhang at its center. To the east of Qiuzhou Tower is Huaihe Pavilion, a classic example of Jiangnan-style courtyard architecture, where small bridges, green willows, lotus ponds, and rich exhibits blend seamlessly.
