Kuaiji Mountain Tian Gong Scenic Area
Nestled within the lush bamboo groves, singing birds, murmuring springs, and ancient temple chants of Kuaiji Mountain lies a “pure land on earth”—the Tian Gong Scenic Area, which includes the Tusita Heaven Palace and Kuaiji Mountain Longhua Temple.
Situated in central-eastern Zhejiang, Kuaiji Mountain is often veiled in clouds and mist, resembling a fantastical paradise. It has drawn many monks and Taoists who come here to cultivate themselves spiritually. Historically, it was a renowned sacred mountain where Confucianism, Buddhism, and Taoism converged, and it is also the birthplace of China’s belief in Maitreya. As early as the Eastern Jin Dynasty, eminent monks established monastic sites here, founding the earliest Longhua Temple in China—Kuaiji Mountain Longhua Temple (recorded in the Shaoxing Prefecture Annals as having been bestowed an imperial plaque in the early Tang Dynasty), as well as China’s first statue of Maitreya (according to the Fayuan Zhulin).
In 2007, construction began on the Tusita Pure Land (comprising the Tusita Heaven Palace and Kuaiji Mountain Longhua Temple) on Kuaiji Mountain, bringing the radiant wisdom of Buddhist culture back to life. The site follows the philosophy of “inclusiveness, harmony, and joy,” fostering a lifestyle and mindset of “Buddha’s heart, Taoist’s backbone, and Confucian’s appearance.”
The Tusita Pure Land focuses on scripture lectures, meditation, and spiritual retreats, making it an ideal place for cultivating wisdom, enjoying happiness, and developing character. It serves as a spiritual sanctuary for modern urban dwellers. Every visitor can unwind in this serene space, return to their true selves, and embark on a journey of awakening and enlightenment.
