Shaoxing Yue State Nobles' Tomb Cluster
The Shaoxing Yue State Nobles' Tomb Cluster is a cultural relic protection unit of Zhejiang Province.
The Yue State nobles' tomb is located at the bridgehead of Shuizhu'an, about 1 kilometer west of Taoyuan Natural Village, Dongtao Village, Pingshui Town, Shaoxing County. It is one of the largest discovered Yue State nobles' tombs in Shaoxing to date. The main tomb mound is massive in scale, with an east-west oriented rectangular, inverted-trapezoid shape. About 20 meters north of the main tomb lies a burial mound, also featuring an east-west oriented rectangular, inverted-trapezoid shape, but is relatively smaller in size. Based on evidence such as white clay and charcoal unearthed from looter pits, both tombs are inferred to be deep earthen pit wooden-chamber tombs. The presence of rectangular, inverted-trapezoid shaped tomb mounds and the use of white clay and charcoal as tomb fillings are key characteristics of large noble tombs from the Spring and Autumn and Warring States periods of the Yue State. These features lead to the conclusion that this site is indeed a Yue State nobles' tomb.
Dongtao Village: On June 2, 2003, through administrative village-scale adjustments, the former Dongtao, Taoyuan, Yanghuai, and Southeast villages were merged to form the new Dongtao Village. Our village is situated east of Pingshui Town, 12 kilometers from downtown Shaoxing, enjoying convenient transportation and beautiful surroundings. It serves as both the "back garden" of Shaoxing and an ideal location for investors and entrepreneurs. The village covers a total area of 6.85 square kilometers, with 816 households and a population of 2,312. It consists of 10 villager groups and currently has 42 villager representatives.
