The Flat Drag Sluice is divided into two parts: the southeastern sluices. The southern one is now called the Five-Eye Sluice. According to the Jiaqing Shanyin County Annals, “It was built in the sixth year of the Zhengde era of the Ming Dynasty (1511) by Magistrate Zhang Huan.” It runs from north to south, spans the Haihu River, has a total length of 25 meters, with a span over the river of 18.8 meters. There are four piers in the middle, forming a five-arch beam bridge structure. The eastern one is called the Three-Eye Sluice. According to the Jiaqing Shanyin County Annals, it was “built in the thirteenth year of the Chenghua era of the Ming Dynasty by Prefect Dai Hu,” and is a three-arch stone beam bridge structure, with a total length of 25.5 meters. The Flat Drag Sluice, as a hydraulic facility from the Ming Dynasty, has been completely preserved to this day, which is unique within Shaoxing County and provides rare physical evidence for the study of Shaoxing’s water conservancy projects. It was designated as a county-level cultural relic protection unit in 2002.
