Wangzan Ancestral Temple

Wangzan Ancestral Temple is a cultural relic protection unit of Zhejiang Province.

Wangzan Ancestral Temple is located at No. 12 Lipu Road, Dianqian Village, his hometown, also known as the Lipu Wang Family Ancestral Temple. It was first built during the Jiajing reign of the Ming Dynasty. Prior to that, during the Chunxi era of the Southern Song Dynasty, Wangzan’s ancestors had established an ancestral temple north of Jiujia Jianqiao (now Fushan Temple in Nanqiaobeicun, Yongxing Subdistrict). In the first year of the Hongwu reign of the Ming Dynasty, members of the Wang clan relocated to Lipu and built another ancestral temple west of Yanze Bridge in Dianqian Village, before moving again to Lipu Road.

The current ancestral temple faces east and has three courtyards. It is a brick-and-wood structure with a simple and solemn architectural style, featuring upturned eaves and carved beams that still retain an ancient charm. At the entrance are two majestic standing stone leopards. The main plaque of the ancestral temple bears the inscription “Wang Family Ancestral Temple” on the front and “Descendants of the Three Cypress Lineage” on the back. Originally, it was an imperial decree arch granted by Emperor Jiajing of the Ming Dynasty, who also bestowed the couplet “Willing to Build, Willing to Uphold; Following the Ancestors’ Deeds” (the original arch was destroyed long ago and restored in 1997). On both sides of the entrance are stone horses, stone sheep, and stone statues of officials, all exquisitely crafted and authentic antiques. Nearby, there is a stone stele inscribed with “Record of the Reconstruction of the Ancestral Temple,” which details the multiple reconstructions of the Wang family ancestral temple since the Southern Song Dynasty.

It is the seat of the Longwan District government and lies close to Wenzhou Yongqiang Airport and the Longwan Ten-Thousand-Ton Dock. In early 2002, it was formed by merging the former Zhongzhong Office and Yongchang Office of Yongzhong Town with the former Longshui Town. The jurisdiction covers an area of 52.95 square kilometers, including 6 residential committees and 34 villages, with a registered population of 69,000 and a floating population of over 60,000.
