“First Mountain” Cliff Inscription

The “First Mountain” cliff inscription is a cultural relic protection unit of Longwan District.

The “First Mountain” cliff inscription is located on the eastern slope of Zhengzhai Village, Yongchang Town, Longwan District. The stone slab is 1.06 meters high and 2.32 meters wide, featuring the horizontal running script “First Mountain” carved in intaglio from left to right, with the signature “Written by Mi Fu” in the lower right corner. The calligraphy is vigorous and simple, and the carving is exquisitely done. On the western stone wall near the “Mi Fu” inscription, there is a linear intaglio regular script “First Mountain,” about 0.7 meters in character size, with no signature.

Mi Fu (1051–1107) was skilled in poetry and prose, excelled in painting and calligraphy, and had a refined eye for art. He is grouped with Su Shi, Huang Tingjian, and Cai Xiang as one of the Four Masters of the Song Dynasty.
