Wanghai Bridge

Wanghai Bridge is a cultural relic protection unit of Longwan District.

Wanghai Bridge is located in Yongxing Shuitan Village, Yongzhong Subdistrict, Longwan District. It was built during the Ming Dynasty. Originally a twelve-arch stone bridge, it was rebuilt into an eight-arch structure in the third year of the Tongzhi reign of the Qing Dynasty (1864). In the thirteenth year of the Republic of China (1924), it was further reduced to seven arches. Running from north to south across the Shuitan River, it measures 37.80 meters in length and 2.20 meters in width. Stone balustrades are installed along both sides, and a stele still stands at the northern end of the bridge. The inscription on the stele reads: “Wanghai Bridge at Shuitan was built during the Zhengde era of the Ming Dynasty by Xi Bin Gong. The bridge had twelve spans, crossing the river from north to south, backed by mountains to the west and facing the sea to the east. From its height, one could gaze into the distance and watch the tides come and go, with endless waves shimmering like silver, all vividly before one’s eyes.”

Yongzhong Subdistrict: Yongzhong Subdistrict is located on the southern bank of the lower reaches of the Oujiang River in the eastern part of downtown Wenzhou. It is the seat of the Longwan District government, adjacent to Wenzhou Yongqiang Airport and the Longwan Ten-Thousand-Ton Wharf. Airport Avenue, Yongqiang Avenue, and Wenqiang Highway all run through the area. In early 2002, it was formed through the merger of the former Zhong Office and Yongchang Office of Yongzhong Town, along with the former Longshui Town. The subdistrict covers an area of 52.95 square kilometers, governs 6 residential communities and 34 villages, has a registered population of 69,000, and a temporary resident population of over 60,000.
