Hengtang Bridge

Hengtang Bridge is located in Xialiuzhai, Yongchang, Yongzhong Subdistrict, Longwan District. It was first built during the Ming Dynasty. This five-arch beam-style stone bridge runs east-west, spanning the Yongqiang Pond River. It is 12 meters long and 2 meters wide. The southern side of the bridge deck is inscribed in intaglio regular script with 14 characters: “Built by Wang Zheng, Right Assistant Minister of the Ming Dynasty’s Court of State Ceremonial.” The northern side is equipped with a railing, whose column capitals are carved decoratively. Due to the high-quality materials used, the exquisite craftsmanship, and the finely chiseled surface of the bridge deck, which is so tightly paved that sesame seeds can be dried on it without falling through, it is commonly known as the Sesame Bridge.

Yongzhong Subdistrict: Yongzhong Subdistrict is situated on the southern bank of the lower reaches of the Oujiang River in the eastern part of Wenzhou City. It is the seat of the Longwan District government, adjacent to Wenzhou Yongqiang Airport and the Longwan Ten-Thousand-Ton Wharf. Airport Avenue, Yongqiang Avenue, and Wenqiang Highway all run through the area. In early 2002, it was formed through the merger of the former Zhongzheng Office and Yongchang Office of Yongzhong Town, along with the former Longshui Town. The jurisdiction covers an area of 52.95 square kilometers, comprising 6 residential communities and 34 villages, with a registered population of 69,000 and a temporary resident population of over 60,000.
