Mashan Martyrs' Cemetery

Mashan Martyrs' Cemetery is a classic red tourism destination.

Cangnan’s Mashan Town was one of the regions where our Party’s revolutionary activities began relatively early. A group of revolutionaries sacrificed their precious lives for national independence and the liberation of the people. To commemorate the martyrs and educate future generations, the local government built the Mashan Martyrs' Cemetery in October 1960 and renovated it in March 1990. Since its completion, municipal and county leaders have visited the cemetery multiple times to hold commemorative memorial activities. Nearly 10,000 people from all walks of life come to pay their respects each year.

Mashan Martyrs' Cemetery is located in Yuanshanzi, Qiaotou Village, Mashan Town, Cangnan County. The cemetery faces southeast and is situated northwest, covering an area of 1,400 square meters with a built-up area of 521.5 square meters. Ascending a stone-paved mountain path about 1 meter wide and 200 meters long from the foot of the hill, you reach the cemetery gate, where the plaque above reads “Martyrs’ Cemetery.” Within the circular cemetery wall stands a memorial stele inscribed with the words “Eternal Glory to Revolutionary Martyrs,” written by Zhou Jianren, former governor of Zhejiang Province. Behind the stele are three semi-circular burial vaults arranged in a row: the middle one is the tomb of 24 People’s Liberation Army soldiers, interring those who fell during the Battle of Fuzhou in the 188th and 189th Regiments of the 21st Army of the PLA; on the left is the tomb of martyr Wang Guozhen; on the right are the tombs of four martyrs—Zhu Weifu, Xu Qikun, Li Zhengchao, and Lan Chaohua. On the left and right sides of the memorial stele are the graves of five and nine martyrs, respectively. In total, the Mashan Martyrs' Cemetery is the final resting place of 43 revolutionary martyrs.

Mashan Martyrs' Cemetery is a cultural relic protection unit of Cangnan County and a patriotic education base of Cangnan County.
