Celebrate Chinese New Year in Tainan in 2010 – spend Valentine’s Day with your loved one for lasting happiness

With the nine-day Lunar New Year holiday just around the corner, this year’s break is especially lengthy, and Chinese New Year’s Day coincides with February 14th, Western Valentine’s Day. The Tainan City and County governments have collaborated to launch a distinctive “2010 Tainan Hold Hands, Happiness Lasts Forever” event, inviting couples born in the Greater Tainan area across the nation to return to their hometown for a unique lovers’ Spring Festival on Chinese New Year’s Day.

Tainan City, known for its historic landmarks, and Tainan County, famed for its cultural tourism, were originally one entity 64 years ago, collectively referred to as Tainan Prefecture. This year, they have joined forces to create a Spring Festival event themed “Tainan Hold Hands,” inviting Tainan couples to join hands in the ancient city and walk together in happiness. “Hold hands” here mainly refers to one’s partner—so any married couple where one partner’s ID starts with the letter D (for Tainan City) and the other with R (for Tainan County), meaning one was born in Tainan City and the other in Tainan County, can sign up for a chance to win great prizes.

The “2010 Tainan Hold Hands, Happiness Lasts Forever” event offers generous prizes. The couple with the highest combined age will win a 3-day, 2-night Tainan food and accommodation package, complete with VIP shuttle service, plus a signature silk quilt from Xiaying Township. The top 64 couples based on combined age will also receive specialty products from Tainan City and County, such as Dongshan coffee, longan flower honey, Xiaying Township silk quilts, and Zhou’s shrimp rolls.
