Moon Old Mountain is located in Wencheng County, Wenzhou City, Zhejiang Province, and is the only forest park in China themed around “love.” The Moon Old Mountain scenic area is situated in the Shishe Forest Farm in the northwest of Wencheng County, covering a total area of 445 hectares. It is just 38 kilometers away from Wencheng County town, with a forest coverage rate of over 97%. The Yun Ding Guan Ri Tower stands at an altitude of 1,339 meters, making it the highest peak in Wencheng County, offering a view of the spectacular sight of “five lakes and four seas.” The air is rich in negative ions, like a natural oxygen bar. The scenic area is home to dozens of rare tree species such as metasequoia, cloud pine, and yew, some of which are over a hundred years old. The dense canopy blocks out most of the sunlight, so you can walk through the forest with barely any sun exposure. The average annual temperature is 12.8 degrees.

Moon Old Mountain lies within the subtropical monsoon climate zone, featuring continuous mountain ranges and an average annual temperature of 12.8 degrees Celsius. Precipitation occurs year-round, with more rainfall in autumn and winter, exceeding 1,000 millimeters annually. The area is densely forested with numerous mountains, maintaining Class I air quality year-round. The daily average PM2.5 concentration is 5 micrograms per cubic meter, while the negative ion content reaches over 70,000 per cubic centimeter—35 times the national standard—earning it the reputation of a “natural oxygen bar.” The climate is distinct in all four seasons: cool in summer, pleasant in spring and autumn, and cold in winter. Its tourism resources are known for being cool and green, ancient and wild, with a harmonious blend of mountains, water, forests, and rocks. It is a multifunctional comprehensive tourist destination ideal for summer retreats, vacations, sightseeing, conferences, research, and entertainment.

Moon Old Mountain boasts vast areas of pristine secondary evergreen broad-leaved forests and tall evergreen coniferous forests. It is home to dozens of rare tree species such as metasequoia, cloud pine, and yew, some over a century old, providing ample shade. The expansive forests, lush and deep green, conceal seasonal changes, blossoming springs and fruitful autumns, and the transitions of dawn and dusk, all adding radiance to the sea of trees. The forest is abundant with wild fruits, birdsongs, and insect chirps, enhancing the unique wilderness charm of the woodland park. The dense woods and towering trees act as natural air conditioners, often referred to as “vitamins of the air,” greatly benefiting human health. Moon Old Temple

In front of the Moon Old Temple lies a clear lake, backed by green mountains, making it the iconic structure of Moon Old Mountain. Though it doesn’t have grand halls, it is surrounded by lush trees and offers a tranquil environment, like a hidden jewel amidst the landscape. Unmarried couples can pray here for their ideal life partners, while married couples who pay homage to the Moon God may expect a harmonious and enduring marriage. The Moon Old Temple is a sacred place for lovers to pray for blessings.

Love Sea

The “Love Sea” in Moon Old Mountain—of course, there isn’t actually a sea in these mountain valleys. Surrounded by peaks, a lake shimmers with sparkling waves, much like love itself: serene yet not entirely still, enduring through time. Floating on the Love Sea is a boat with two hearts stacked together—this is the “Hearts Entwined” boat. Upon closer inspection, you’ll notice the boat isn’t tied to the shore but is left to drift freely on the lake. “Isn’t that bad luck? Two drifting hearts,” someone might ask. Hearing this, the staff smiles and says, “If two hearts are truly bound together, drifting like this—no matter how rough the waves—is still happiness.”

Surrounding the Love Sea is a long corridor where visitors can enjoy views from different angles. This area will also be developed into a wedding photography base, allowing couples to create beautiful memories by the Love Sea and witness their love. Additionally, the Hearts Entwined boat and the giant red double happiness symbol in front of the Moon Old Temple are must-visit photo spots for couples. One represents two hearts joined as one, the other symbolizes double joy.

Great Chinese Happiness

The giant red double happiness symbol at Moon Old Mountain stands 7.9 meters tall and 9.9 meters wide, with built-in lighting that makes it even more striking at night, making it a great spot for wedding photography. Behind the red double happiness is a pond, and across from the pond lies the Moon Old Temple. Since ancient times, there has been a folk legend about the Moon God matchmaking couples across great distances. Many young people, whether in love or not, hold the Moon God in high regard—for no other reason than love.

Metasequoia Forest

The sky is vast, the woods are deep, and rows of metasequoia trees stand tall shoulder to shoulder. Metasequoias are always upright, standing firmly in their modest plots of land, growing straight upward with dense green needles hugging the trunks and reaching for the clouds. The space beneath them is left for people—branches spread out, allowing visitors to walk through, fully enjoying their shade and moisture. In the depths of winter, they stand taut against the cold, never looking around or begging for mercy, but remaining proudly upright. Metasequoias are like people—tall and majestic, yet graceful and slender. Leaving behind the noise of the city and strolling along the forest paths, stepping on soft soil, breathing in the fragrance of plants, listening to birds and insects, and watching birds play among the branches, you’ll feel a sense of returning to nature and embracing simplicity.

Yun Ding Guan Ri Tower

The Yun Ding Guan Ri Tower was originally a fire watchtower for the Shishe Forest Farm and has been rebuilt in the shape of the China Pavilion from the Shanghai World Expo. The bright red rooftop stands out vividly against the emerald-green mountaintop. To the south of the tower, a two-person-tall peach tree sways alone in the cold wind. As the great Tang Dynasty poet Bai Juyi wrote in his poem “Peach Blossoms in the Temple of Great Forest”: “All flowers in the human world have withered in April; / Peach blossoms in the mountain temple start to bloom. / I’ve long lamented the passing of spring with no sight of it, / Not knowing it has come here instead.”
