Tomb of Liu Ji

The Tomb of Liu Ji is a National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit.

Historically known as the Tomb of Marquis Chengyi, it is located in Xiashan Village, Xiling Township, Xihu Township, Nantian District, Wencheng County, Zhejiang. The *Ming History · Biography of Liu Ji* records: "In March of the eighth year of the Hongwu era (1375) during the Ming Dynasty, the Hongwu Emperor issued an edict and sent envoys to escort his remains back to his hometown. Upon arriving home, his illness worsened, and he passed away on the sixteenth day of the fourth month. In June, his sons Liu Lian and Liu ? buried him on the plains of Xiashan." The tomb is a simple earthen mound, built along the mountain in a chair-like shape using cobblestones. In front of the tomb stands a stone stele erected during the Republican era, inscribed with "Tomb of Liu Wencheng, Grand Tutor of the Ming Dynasty, Bestowed by Imperial Order." In March 1985, a circular wall was constructed around the tomb, and pine and cypress trees were planted. It was listed as a County-Level Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit in 1980, and on December 12, 1989, it was designated as a Provincial-Level Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit.

Liu Ji, of Han ethnicity, also known as Bo Wen, and in his later years styled himself Li Mei Gong. He was a founding hero of the Ming Dynasty. Born on the fifteenth day of the sixth month in the fourth year of the Zhiyuan era (1311) during the Yuan Dynasty, he died in the eighth year of the Hongwu era (1375) of the Ming Dynasty at the age of 64. He was from Wuyang Village, Nantian Town, Wencheng County, Wenzhou City, Zhejiang Province (formerly part of Qingtian County, Chuzhou Prefecture), and was a statesman, poet, military strategist, and literary figure of the Ming Dynasty.
