Shanxi Revolutionary History Memorial Hall

The Shanxi Revolutionary History Memorial Hall is a classic red tourism destination and a patriotic education base.

From the winter of 1935 to 1936, Liu Ying and Su Yu led the Advance Division into the Shanxi area, where they fought alongside poor peasants, carried out revolutionary struggles, developed Party organizations, and established a revolutionary base.

The Shanxi Revolutionary History Memorial Hall is located on Baicheng Mountain in Shanxi Town, Wencheng County, with a total investment of over 2.5 million yuan. All the funds were raised independently by the Shanxi Town Party Committee and government. Covering an area of more than 20 acres, the memorial hall has a construction area of 678 square meters. It was renovated and renamed in 1999 from the original Liu Ying Memorial Hall. During its construction, the project received strong support from all sectors of society. For example, the five octagonal pavilions located at the front, back, left, and right sides of the hall were funded by units such as the Lucheng District Committee of Wenzhou City and the Tangxia Town Committee of Ruian City, as well as individuals like Hu Xiuyi. The entrance and exit of the hall feature a large flower bed, and opposite it lies a stone stairway with 216 steps, divided into three levels leading directly to the square. The first level has 36 steps and the second has 42, symbolizing that Liu Ying was 36 years old when he heroically sacrificed his life in 1942. Each of the three stair levels includes a platform, signifying that the path of revolution advances in waves but will ultimately lead to victory. The original Liu Ying Memorial Hall was completed on May 18, 1996, to commemorate Liu Ying’s martyrdom on May 18, 1942.

The Shanxi Revolutionary History Memorial Hall is a Zhejiang Provincial Patriotic Education Base and a Wenzhou Municipal National Defense Education Base.

Shanxi Town: Located in the southwest of Wencheng County, Shanxi Town is the site of the national key project — the Shanxi Water Control Hub. In 1998, it was listed as one of Zhejiang Province’s comprehensive reform pilot towns for small towns and ranked among the province’s 136 key towns.
