Huangtan Battle Site

The Huangtan Battle Site is a cultural tourism attraction.

On January 8, 1949, the Qing-Jing-Li County Team of the Chinese Communist Party received accurate intelligence from an insider within the Huangtan Self-Defense Unit at Yazhuang in Linghou. The intelligence revealed that two companies of the Kuomintang Zhejiang Security Regiment stationed in Huangtan had left for Taishun, leaving only the KMT self-defense unit and another team guarding the area, resulting in a weakened internal defense. The Qing-Jing-Li County Committee immediately conducted a study and ordered the county team captain Deng Futan to lead the second and third squads, in coordination with the third squadron of the first battalion of the Southern Zhejiang Guerrilla Column, to divide into two routes and arrive at the KMT Liken'ao bunker in Huangtan at midnight on January 9. Captain Deng Futan and the county team soldiers saw that the bunker door was open and immediately surrounded it. With the cooperation of Jiang Zhang’ao, the squad leader and insider from the Huangtan Self-Defense Unit, and Zhu Suimei, a member, Deng Futan led the second squad into the enemy bunker, where they killed on the spot Zhang Changren, the head of Huangtan Township under the KMT; deputy head Li Zhiqu; Huangtan Self-Defense Unit squad leader Xia Peng; and four others, capturing more than 30 enemies, seizing one submachine gun, over 30 rifles, and two crates of grenades. Meanwhile, the other route, led by Huang Zhongmin’s third squadron of the first battalion of the Guerrilla Column, upon hearing the gunfire, immediately rushed into the landlord’s house at Liken’ao, eliminating one squad of the self-defense unit stationed there and confiscating ten rifles and one crate of grenades.

The Huangtan Battle Site, also known as the Liken’ao Bunker, is located in Likenga, Houxiang Village, Huangtan Town, Wencheng County. It has now been destroyed.
