Former Site of the Red Army Field in Yazyhuang, Linghou

The Former Site of the Red Army Field in Yazyhuang, Linghou is a classic destination for red tourism.

In October 1936, Liu Ying, Secretary of the Provincial Committee, led the temporary provincial committee office and the Advance Division Instruction Regiment to carry out activities in Ruiqingtai County to consolidate and develop the revolutionary base area. At the end of October, the temporary provincial committee held a military-civilian gathering at Aotian in Yazyhuang, Linghou (now called the Red Army Field), attended by nearly a thousand local residents and members of the Advance Division. At the meeting, Liu Ying, Secretary of the Provincial Committee, delivered a propaganda report on the anti-Japanese salvation movement. After the meeting, soldiers and civilians jointly put on a cultural performance. This gathering was grand in scale, shook the entire southern Zhejiang region, and had far-reaching political impact. On November 4, the Kuomintang’s “Zheou Daily” reported: “Taishun’s NXi Township and Qingtai’s Xiazhuang are adjacent (now part of Wencheng)... Recently, over 400 people have taken these two areas as their stronghold, gathering ignorant masses to hold meetings and engage in extensive propaganda.”

The Former Site of the Red Army Field in Yazyhuang, Linghou is located at the Red Army Field in Yazyhuang Village, Linghou Township, Wencheng County, covering an area of about 300 square meters. After the liberation, local residents renamed the Aotian field—where a grand military-civilian cultural performance stage had been set up—as the “Red Army Field.”
