Former Site of the Provisional Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China for Fujian-Zhejiang Border Area and the Red Army Advance Division

The Former Site of the Provisional Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China for Fujian-Zhejiang Border Area and the Red Army Advance Division is a classic red tourism attraction.

On September 23, 1935, over 100 members of the Red Army Advance Division, led by Huang Fuwu, head of the Political Department, entered the territory of WenCheng County for the first time and camped at Shitan Tou in Gaocun, Sanyuan that evening. After entering WenCheng, the Advance Division propagated revolutionary ideals, organized the masses to fight against local tyrants, and distributed confiscated grain and property to poor villagers. On the 24th, Liu Ying led the guard squad from Jingning into Xikeng and set up camp. The next morning at 9 AM, they had an encounter battle with a company of the Nationalist Security Regiment stationed at Shang??, during which Liu Zhengfa was wounded in the head. That night they camped in Huangtan, and the next morning proceeded via Longchuan to Da?N. In October of the same year, the Provisional Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China for the Fujian-Zhejiang Border Area and the Red Army Advance Division moved to the Fujian-Zhejiang border region, carrying out armed struggles and establishing the South Zhejiang Guerrilla Base in areas such as Taishun, Pingyang, and WenCheng. In November, after a two-day forced march, the Red Army Advance Division broke through multiple blockades set up by the Nationalists and captured Shaxi Town in Ruian County (now part of WenCheng), where they immediately opened shops to aid the poor and conducted revolutionary propaganda among the masses. In October 1936, Liu Ying led the Provisional Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China for the Fujian-Zhejiang Border Area and the Red Army Advance Division to operate in the areas of Linghou and Yazhuang. The Provisional Provincial Committee held a military-civilian gathering at Aoyatian (now known as Red Army Field) in Yazhuang, Linghou, attended by nearly a thousand local people and members of the Advance Division. At the gathering, Liu Ying, Secretary of the Provincial Committee, gave a report on the movement for national salvation and resistance against Japan. After the meeting, soldiers and civilians jointly put on a cultural performance. This gathering was a grand event that shook the entire South Zhejiang region and had far-reaching political impact.

The Former Site of the Provisional Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China for Fujian-Zhejiang Border Area and the Red Army Advance Division is located in Yazhuang Village, Linghou Township, WenCheng County. It is a large, two-courtyard wooden structure complex built in the 14th year of the Daoguang reign during the Qing Dynasty (1834), facing southeast and situated northwest. The longitudinal layout consists of a gatehouse, front courtyard, upper rooms, suites, and wing rooms. The building features a double-eaved hip-and-gable roof, surrounded by high stone walls, with only a small side gate on the west side. The east wing room inside served as Liu Ying’s office at the time. The large courtyard remains well-preserved, with the site covering a construction area of over 1,800 square meters and a total land area of about 5,000 square meters. The village is surrounded by mountains and boasts beautiful surroundings.
