The Tomb of the Six Martyrs from One Family is a cultural tourism attraction and a classic red tourism site.

Hu Congdian (1891–1936), Hu Congdeng (1897–1936), Hu Congkun (1899–1935), Hu Congtong (1902–1935), Hu Congwei (1908–1936), and Hu Congshen (1917–1936) were brothers from Yanmen Village, Jinxing Township, Wencheng County.

In May 1930, the Communist Party of China established the 13th Red Army of China Workers and Peasants in southern Zhejiang. At that time, Hu Congdeng, Hu Congkun, and Hu Congtong, three brothers from Yanmen Village, Jinxing Township, Wencheng County, who were working in Qingtian, decided to join the Red Army together and were assigned to the 1st Regiment as soldiers. Soon after, Congdeng was ordered to return to his hometown to promote the revolution and expand the Red Army forces.

While active in his hometown, Congdeng cooperated closely with Zheng Xiantang, Secretary of the CPC Rui’an County Committee, and Zhou Zuicao, Secretary of the West District Committee, who were developing party organizations and establishing a Soviet government in the area. As a result, he was admitted to the Communist Party of China and appointed Secretary of the Yanmen Village Party Branch.

In the spring of 1935, the Chinese Workers’ and Peasants’ Red Army Advance Detachment, led by Commander Su Yu and Political Commissar Liu Ying, entered southwestern Zhejiang. Congdeng joined the Advance Detachment, along with his brothers Congkun, Congneng, Congwei, as well as the gentle, honest, and lame Congdian and the just-turned-18 Congshen, who joined either the Advance Detachment or local peasant associations. From then on, Yanmen Village became a frequent base of operations for the Red Army Advance Detachment. On the morning of November 12 of the same year, the despotic landlord Qiu Zhouda led a heavily armed squad from the security headquarters to Yanmen Village to arrest Hu Congdeng. Congdeng was captured and immediately taken to the Wenzhou Security Headquarters. On the same morning, the stepson of the despotic Hu Fupei, acting on orders from reactionary officer Gao Mingpeng, arrived in Yanmen Village with over 120 members of Gao’s security force. They arrested Hu Congkun (the third eldest) and Hu Congtong (the fourth eldest) and executed them the next day on the riverbank outside the city. Congkun was 36 years old, and Congtong was 33 at the time of their deaths.

After capturing Congdeng, the Nationalist army attempted to extract information about the strength and movements of the Advance Detachment through both soft and hard interrogation tactics, but all efforts failed. Enraged, they executed Congdeng by firing squad in Wenzhou one day in October 1936. He was 39 years old.

In November of the same year, Qiu Zhouda, the deputy township head and a local landlord, along with Hu Fupei, another oppressive figure, conspired with Xia Shousu, leader of the Qingtian County Self-Defense Corps under the Nationalists, to send troops to Yanmen Village to capture Congwei and his two brothers. Unfortunately, the three brothers were all at home at the time. Congdian was hacked to death with a machete in a field outside the village. Congwei and Congshen were killed on the back hill of Long’ao in Nantian. The three brothers were 45 (eldest, Congdian), 28 (fifth, Congwei), and 19 (youngest, Congshen) years old at the time of their deaths.

After the liberation, the six brothers—Hu Congdian, Hu Congdeng, Hu Congkun, Hu Congtong, Hu Congwei, and Hu Congshen—were posthumously recognized as revolutionary martyrs. In 1985, the county government allocated a pension fund, which the Yanmen Village Committee used to build a martyrs’ tomb for the six Hu brothers.

The Tomb of the Six Martyrs from One Family is located in Yanmen Village, Jinxing Township, Yuhu Town, Wencheng County, covering an area of 40 square meters. It is a joint tomb for the six brothers: Hu Congdian, Hu Congdeng, Hu Congkun, Hu Congtong, Hu Congwei, and Hu Congshen. The tomb is hexagonal, with an inscription in the center. At the heart is a 0.35-meter-wide, 1.5-meter-tall stele inscribed with “Revolutionary Martyrs’ Tomb.”
