Former Residence of Fu Wen

The Former Residence of Fu Wen is a cultural tourism attraction.

Fu Wen (1895–1965), courtesy name Yuli, childhood name Tirén, was from Wuxi Village, Xikeng Town, Wencheng County. Orphaned at the age of seven, he was raised by his two elder sisters. He graduated from Zhejiang No. 11 Middle School and in 1921 was admitted to the 8th class of the Baoding Military Academy. He subsequently served in the military for many years, holding positions such as platoon leader, company commander, battalion commander, regimental commander, and brigade commander. In 1936, he served as the Lieutenant General Chief of Staff of the 31st Army Group. During the War of Resistance Against Japan, he was appointed as the Administrative Inspector and Garrison Commander of Shaanxi’s First Political District, as well as the Magistrate of Yulin County, stationed in Yulin and overseeing eight counties. In 1942, he became the Education Director of the Training Corps for Cadres in the Border Region of Jiangsu, Anhui, Shandong, and Henan provinces. That same year, while passing through Yan'an, he was hosted to a banquet by Mao Zedong and Zhu De. In 1943, he was transferred to serve as the Garrison Commander of Western Henan, and in 1945, he was appointed Deputy Commander of the First Supply Area of the Logistics Department, stationed in Shanghai. In May 1946, he was promoted to Commander. In 1949, he resigned from his military post and was invited to go to Taiwan to serve in an advisory capacity. After retiring in 1959, he was appointed as an advisor to Taiwan Sugar Corporation. He passed away on June 3, 1965.

Fu Wen emphasized physical fitness, had a strong physique, and remained vigorous throughout his military career. He was known for his integrity, dedication to public service, fearless stance against power, and refusal to show favoritism. Although he spent much time away from home, his love for his hometown never faded, and he often lamented that he could not contribute more to his native place. His deep affection for his homeland was always evident.

The Former Residence of Fu Wen is located in Wuxi Village, Xikeng Town, Wencheng County, covering a construction area of 95 square meters. The residence is built against a hillside, facing a stream across the way, with picturesque village scenery. However, after a fire, the residence suffered damage, with most of the structure burned down. Fortunately, the part where Fu Wen once lived was not severely affected. After repairs, the original appearance was partially restored.
