Former Residence of Liu Jinchih

The former residence of Liu Jinchih is a cultural tourism attraction.

Liu Jinchih (1904–1988), from Nantian Town, Wencheng County, attended Xiamen University after finishing middle school. In 1927, during the Republic of China era, he was admitted to the Officers' Corps of the 26th Army of the National Revolutionary Army, beginning his military career. He subsequently gained admission to the Whampoa Military Academy (Class 6) and the Army War College (Class 11). After graduation, he served in a range of roles, starting as a junior and mid-level signal officer, advancing to company and district commander, then to staff officer at the middle and senior captain levels. He also served as a major-general level senior advisor and department head at the Military Command Headquarters, a major-general level director at the Ministry of War, a major-general level division commander of the Reorganized 26th and 57th Divisions, and a major-general level division commander of the 98th Army. During the War of Resistance Against Japan, he participated in the Battle of Shanghai, the defense of Nanjing, and the Battle of Wuhan, performing his duties diligently. In April 1949, he was appointed as the lieutenant general and commander of the 98th Army. During the Chinese Civil War, as the Nationalist forces suffered successive defeats, Liu wavered at first but gradually gained clarity on the situation. In December 1949, in Yuanshanchang, Nanshan County, Sichuan Province, he led the officers and soldiers of the Nationalist 98th Army in rebelling. After the rebellion, he was appointed as the commander of the restructured 98th Army and attended the Advanced Studies Class at the Southwest Military and Political University. He later served as an instructor at the Nanjing Military Academy, a consultant at the Shanxi Provincial People's Government Advisory Office, director of the Zhejiang Provincial People's Government Advisory Office, member of the Standing Committee of the Zhejiang Provincial People's Congress, central committee member of the Revolutionary Committee of the Chinese Kuomintang, deputy director of the Zhejiang Provincial Committee of the Revolutionary Committee of the Chinese Kuomintang, member of the Zhejiang Provincial Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, and advisor to the Shanghai Whampoa Military Academy Alumni Association. He actively contributed to socialist revolution and construction efforts. After the Third Plenary Session of the 11th CPC Central Committee, he firmly supported the Party’s reform and opening-up policies and the “One Country, Two Systems” principle. Despite suffering from severe cataracts, he often used a magnifying glass to write letters by hand to his old classmates, colleagues, and relatives in Taiwan, encouraging them to contribute to the motherland’s development and peaceful reunification.

The former residence of Liu Jinchih is located in Waizhai, Nantian Village, Nantian Town, covering a construction area of 650 square meters. It is a two-story wooden structure surrounded by walls about two meters high, giving it an imposing presence. The central hall of the house displays photos and brief biographies of Liu Jinchih and his father, Liu Fengwei, along with dozens of items such as desks, stools, and chairs once used by Lieutenant General Liu Jinchih. The residence is just 500 meters away from the famous cultural site, the Temple of Liu Ji, and enjoys convenient transportation.
