Overview and main features: The Dahuiling Path was originally constructed during the Yuan Dynasty as a major north-south thoroughfare. In the past, it was an essential communication route in Wencheng County, linking the northern parts to Qingtian, Jingning, Yunhe, and Longquan counties, and extending southward to Rui’an and Pingyang. At the foot of Dahuiling lies a natural village named “Lingjiao” (literally “Ridge Foot”). In front of Lingjiao, a stream flows gently from north to south, crossed by a small bridge running east to west. The bridge, built with block stones as its foundation and featuring a single arch, is called Huiji Bridge. The stream, the bridge, and the flowing water create a gentle and elegant scene that travelers enjoy before ascending the steep Dahuiling Path. The path is lined on both sides with various ancient and famous trees, including maple, pine, and especially sweet gum trees (Liquidambar formosana), of which there are over 80, averaging about 85 cm in diameter at breast height. Most are several hundred years old. These trees stretch continuously from the ridge top down to the ridge foot, forming a spectacular sight. In summer, they offer dense shade, while in autumn, the crimson maples blaze like fire, resembling a soaring dragon winding through the mountains. This creates a unique cultural landscape of remarkable beauty. In late autumn and early winter, the area attracts many visitors, earning it the title of “The First Red Maple Ancient Path in Wencheng County.”
