Yanggen Shi Residence

Yanggen Shi Residence is a cultural relic protection unit of Zhejiang Province.

Yanggen Shi Residence is located in Zhoushan She Ethnic Township, Wencheng County, and dates back to the Qing Dynasty.

Yanggen Shi Residence faces south. Built during the Xianfeng era (1851–1861) of the Qing Dynasty, it is a four-sided courtyard-style two-story wooden structure composed of an entrance hall, east and west wing rooms, and a main house. The original entrance hall had seven bays, with one bay added later. Its roof has a double-eaved hip-and-gable style. The wing rooms have three bays. The main house is built on a platform constructed from steep stone slabs, with granite slab steps along the edges. The central bay features two stepped stone staircases, while the beam framework in the center bay uses a through-tenon style construction with seven columns and ten purlins, incorporating double-step beams both front and rear as well as a front single-step corridor. A continuous corridor is set between the front eave columns and the interior columns, and the front eave uses double overhanging purlins. The front eave columns are square with rounded corners, supported by square bluestone pedestals and topped with bluestone column caps. The second floor has a front corridor equipped with a maideni (decorative railing seat), and inside is preserved a plaque inscribed with “Qing Xi Qi Yi” (Celebrating a Centenarian) by Sun Yiyun. The structure features projecting eaves, with the central bay on the ground floor being an open hall. The side bays have their floors elevated and are fitted with wooden flooring, enclosed at the front with lattice doors and adorned with floral windows featuring relief carvings of figures and plant patterns. The main house’s roof is double-eaved hip-and-gable style with interlocking tiles.

On January 13, 2017, the People's Government of Zhejiang Province designated it as part of the Seventh Batch of Zhejiang Provincial Cultural Relic Protection Units.
