Xingming Temple

Xingming Temple is a cultural heritage site protected by Wencheng County.

Xingming Temple is located on the hill behind TanYang Village, ErYuan Township, Wencheng County. Originally built in the 24th year of the Daoguang reign during the Qing Dynasty (1844) and rebuilt in the 17th year of the Republic of China (1928), it once comprised a front gate, the Mahavira Hall, the White-Robed Prime Minister Hall, and side chambers forming a complete courtyard. Later damaged, only an ancient bronze bell remains, inscribed with “Xingming Chan Temple” and “21st Year of the Republic of China.” In 1988, it was rebuilt with funds raised by local residents, covering a construction area of 850 square meters, and was renamed Xingming Temple. The front section is the gateway, the second section houses the White-Robed Prime Minister shrine, and the rear section contains the Mahavira Hall, enshrining the Buddha Sakyamuni and the Eighteen Arhats. All structures feature brick-and-timber post-and-lintel construction with a single-eave hip-and-gable roof.
