Wan'gangshan Kiln Site

The Wan'gangshan Kiln Site is a cultural heritage site protected by Wencheng County.

The Wan'gangshan Kiln Site is located on the hill behind Tanqi Village, Shanxi Town, Wencheng County. It covers an area of 1,200 square meters, with a deposit layer 1–3 meters thick. The main products include bowls, basins, plates, trays, pots, and dishes, all made from fine and hard clay. The glaze colors are predominantly bluish-green and greenish-yellow, with a smooth, thick, and translucent finish. Most items are plain, though some feature carved comb, string, lotus petal, and double-fish patterns. There are also a small number of black-brown ceramics, limited to jars and pots. Kiln furniture includes cylindrical saggars and low-footed flared spacers, both showing visible kiln sweat on the surface. The site was active from the Southern Song Dynasty to the Yuan Dynasty.

Shanxi Town: Located in the southwest of Wencheng County, Shanxi Town is the site of the national key project — the Shanxi Water Control Hub. In 1998, it was listed as one of Zhejiang Province’s comprehensive reform pilot towns for small towns and ranks among the province’s 136 key towns. After the completion of the Shanxi Water Control Hub, China’s second-highest dam and the largest artificial lake in southern Zhejiang were formed, making Shanxi a central tourism town in southern Wenzhou. The town has a population of 41,000 and covers an area of 102.5 square kilometers. With a long revolutionary history, abundant hydropower, tourism, and mineral resources, it is a typical resource-rich and historic revolutionary base in Wencheng County.
