Qijia Temple

Qijia Temple is a cultural relic protection unit of Wencheng County.

Qijia Temple is located in Yuquan Mountain, four kilometers west of Danan Town, Wencheng County. It was first built in the 15th year of the Yuanhe era of the Tang Dynasty (820), but was burned down during the wars at the end of the Tang Dynasty. Shortly after, the monk Shiwu from Fujian rebuilt the monastery. In the second year of the Duan'gong era of the Northern Song Dynasty (989), the main hall was reconstructed, and the Sacred Gate was renovated in the first year of the Xiangfu era (1008). It was destroyed again in the wars at the end of the Yuan Dynasty. During the Ming Dynasty, the disciples of the temple abbot Falin, Nengquan and Nengliang, raised funds to rebuild it under the name Jinghui Temple. It underwent successive renovations in the 38th year of the Qianlong era of the Qing Dynasty (1773), the 8th year of the Jiaqing era (1803), and the 33rd year of the Guangxu era (1907). It was later destroyed again. In 1984, local residents and overseas Chinese jointly raised funds to reconstruct the Sacred Gate, the Vajra Hall, the Mahavira Hall, and the Western Paradise Hall according to the original architectural scale, covering an area of approximately 7,000 square meters. Existing relics include stone pillars and plinths from the Song Dynasty, stone-carved Buddha pedestals, and inscribed steles.
